  Over the years, Silver Spring has become one of the most sought-after stops in the area on many musicians’ tours. As a result, its entertainment district has burgeoned exponentially, with numerous live music venues popping up. Let’s take a look at what Silver Spring has to offer in the near future in terms of live music entertainment. Buck Gooter : This punk-blues duo from Harrisonburg, VA was formed in the early 2000s by Terry Turtle and Billy Brett. Since its formation, the duo has developed into a prolific producer of industrial-blues sound. Some of its albums include Bad Vibrations , First Decade , 100 Bells, and Head in a Bird Cage . The band’s tracks like “No One Owns the Sky,” “Peace Siren,” “Cobwebs,” “Nailed to a Cross,” “Science is a Rascal” and “We Let the Blood” have garnered much appreciation from its audience.   Connick Jr. is a pianist and singer-songwriter who started playing publicly music at the age of five. When he was nine, Connick Jr. performed a piano concerto with the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. He started recording music with a local jazz band at the age of ten. After moving to NYC to study at Hunter College and Manhattan School of Music where he signed with Columbia Records and released his first self-titled album in 1987. Connick dedicated the album to his mother and the track “Sunny Side Of The Street” is dedicated to his tutor James Booker. His next album 20 was released the next year and mainly consisted of covers of traditional pop songs. The album peaked at no. 6 on Billboard’s Top Jazz chart. These two albums added to Connick’s reputation and won him his next big opportunity: the chance to record a soundtrack for the famous film When Harry Met Sally… (1989). The soundtrack won Connick his Grammy Award for Best Jazz Male Vocal Performance for his contribution. Watch...

  Crystal Bowersox Crystal Bowersox is a singer-songwriter from Ohio and the runner-up on the ninth season of American Idol in 2010. Her music career started pretty early at the age of 10 when she performed at local bars like Papa’s Tavern and The Village Idiot in Toledo and Maumee, respectively. After moving to Chicago, she performed frequently on subway platforms while working several part-time jobs. She got her first break in 2006 when the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs chose her to represent Chicago folk musicians in a program called “Experience Chicago”. One year later, Bowersox chose to go on an independent international small café tour. In May 2010, after finishing second on American Idol, Bowersox signed with Jive Records and released her first album Farmer’s Daughter later that year in December.
